We barely even had time to experience Met Gala glamour withdrawal, thanks to the star-studded and couture-gown-filled Cannes Film Festival kicking off on this month. The annual extravaganza has been rolling out straight fire — if not over the top — red carpet looks non-stop since day one. Talk about making a scene! (See what we did there?)
The most A-list of international films — from Hollywood to Bollywood — walk the Cannes red carpet in their most extravagant of black tie gowns, dresses and, yes, jumpsuits that match the powerful drama of their big screen appearances. Come to think of it, the spirit — and impactful silhouettes and elaborate details — of the movie and stage starlet themed House of Couture and fantastical Alice in Wonderland-inspired Gala collections for Spring 2020 would be right at home on the Cannes red carpet.
Not to mention, plenty of best dressed (and risk-taking) silver screen sirens wore gowns that would easily translate from red carpet to wedding aisle. In other words, the Cannes Film Festival offered plenty of glam, chic and show-stopping inspiration for your big day.
So without further ado, here are 14 leading lady ways to wear Cannes glam on your wedding day. But, remember to take your dress to a trusted tailor to avoid any “fainting spells” brought on by constricting gowns — cautionary tale from the lovely Elle Fanning.
Elle Fanning
Speaking of, Elle’s playfully elegant take on retro-tailoring translates into a puff-sleeve, high neck and tulle-layered gown with glimmering with sequins. For your wedding day, consider a jaunty hat instead of a veil, especially for an outdoor ceremony.
Michelle Rodriguez
Give an Old Hollywood-style ballgown a modern twist with fantastical embellishments detailing a sultry corset top, floaty off-the-shoulder straps and a textured full skirt. The spotlight will be on you all night — literally and figuratively.
Leomie Anderson
To really amp up the suspense and anticipation as you make your grand entrance, frame your main wedding look — be it a disco-ball romper or an off-the-shoulder floral-embroidered gown — with a sculpturally voluminous tulle-spiraled train. Then easily take it off — Lady Gaga at the Met Gala style — when you’re ready to hit the dance floor.
Priyanka Chopra
We can’t stop thinking about Priyanka Chopra’s wedding extravaganza — and judging from another very bridal-esque gown, neither can she. (Although, we wouldn’t blame her from wanting to relive her big three-day-weekend nuptials with cutie Nick Jonas.) Do your version of the international starlet’s corset-topped ballgown with an additional spectacular corset layer and extra-flair on the voluminous tulle skirting. Then convince your partner-to-be to coordinate with a wedding white tux.
Doutzen Kroes
Glittering beaded fringe dripping off a seductive, figure-celebrating gown not only serves up irresistible allure and brilliant dazzle but also makes for the best videos and boomerangs that will live forever on Instagram — easily filterable by your super clever hashtagged portmanteau.
Natalia Vodianova
Offset a demure high-neck detail with a hint of bare shoulder, a lot of leg and iridescent illusion panels in all the right places. Sparkling silver 3D lace appliqués bring the luxury and opulence you deserve to finish off the ultra-glam bridal look.
Aishwara Rai
Keep everyone guessing with a just barely off-the-shoulder mermaid silhouette and high-low layers of fluttering tulle. Take a cue from Aishwara and think about an extra dramatic layer, like a two-toned and pleated silk tulle cathedral train embellished with lush lace embroidery.
Izabel Goulart
Haven’t you heard? Pantsuits and jumpsuits are the new gowns when it comes to wedding chic. But turn the heat way up with hypnotic shimmer, inventive asymmetry and peekaboo cut-outs.
Dakota Fanning
Playful pink enjoys the red carpet treatment with iridescent shimmer, intricate embroidery, contrasting high-low layers of d’esprit tulle and a lavish accent at the waist. Psst: Pretty rosettes pinned in your hair work look just as charming for a wedding as it does a star-studded movie premiere.
Ming Xi
Newly engaged model Ming Xi (Maze Tov!) looked to be test driving some bridal looks on the Cannes red carpet. Copious layers of pastel tulle feel candyland playful, but the hard-angled silhouette of the corset-top feels adventurous — if not slightly rebellious. Have some fun on your wedding day!
Araya Hargate
Edge up your shoulder-baring and floral embellished gown with exposed boning on the corset top. Soft layers of tulle and an overabundance of delicate flowers counter the architectural detail.
Guan Xiaotong
A sprinkle — or full bloom — of splendid 3D floral appliqués along the length of a gorgeous gown just feels so luxurious.
Diana Penty
Create your own magical fairy tale princess — no queen — moment with sumptuous, sweeping layers of embroidered tulle, topped off with a stunning lace corset. Keep your décolletage seductively bare, but go all out with the grandest of statement earrings. And how about a tiara, because why not?
Taylor Hill
Turn your wedding aisle into a high fashion runway with an adorable bubble skirt and gossamer-light puff sleeve confection. And who needs a bouquet when a smattering of beautiful sequin flowers adorn the look?
