Winter is an undeniably magical time of year to get married.

It’s a season of romantic fireplaces, twinkling fairy lights and cosy hygge decor. While the options for winter wedding decorations may be endless, finding the perfect wedding dress for colder-climes can be slightly trickier. Before you resign yourself to head-to-toe velvet or a woolen sweater dress, look to our latest bridal collections Fancy White and GALA collection No.IX along with these winter-friendly styling tricks.

High Necklines

It was in 1956 when Grace Kelly wore a silk taffeta wedding gown with a lace bodice and high collar to marry Prince Rainier III of Monaco. The iconic look is one of the most famous wedding dresses of the 20th century, and has since inspired many brides to don a similarly demure gown with a high neckline. The elegant style was modernised and made iconic yet again in 2018 when Meghan Markle emerged for her wedding reception to Prince Harry in a halter neck gown with a high neckline. The modest neckline is not only timeless, but an ideal option for autumn and winter brides. For a nod to Meghan Markle, the G-405 stylepairs a classic high-stand collar with a draped tulle halter and mermaid silhouette. For more coverage, the Estee dress is reminiscent of Grace Kelly’s famed gown with a high neckline, long lace sleeves and an a-line shape.

Long Sleeves

An obvious choice for winter brides is to walk down the aisle in an elegant and seasonally-appropriate long sleeve wedding dress. For traditional brides, the Estee gown is classic perfection, but it’s not the only option for cool-weather weddings. There’s the G-410, with a sexy plunging neckline and sheer and shimmery sequin embroidered long sleeves. For a more fashion-forward style, the Sampaio is a short silk jumpsuit with a high beaded neckline and long sleeves. Worn with a sheer beaded skirt and statement heels, and it’s comparable to Carrie Bradshaw’s playful style.

Cover Ups

For the bride that doesn’t want to compromise on her dream wedding dress. If your signature style is all about showing off your shoulder, or arms, decolletage, all or three, then don’t let the winter season stop you. Instead, team your chosen wedding dress style with a practical yet stylish cover-up. Just remember, this isn’t about covering up your dress but more your skin, a wedding coverup should complement your bridal style rather than detract from it. Case in point the spectacularly sexy Anna dress with its elegant draping and off-the-shoulder neckline. What makes the style even more dramatic though is the matching silk satin cape, which strikes a fierce pose thanks to its sharp pleated shoulders. If your style is more bohemian, the whimsical Meghan gown is made even more romantic thanks to a matching a voluminous coat with balloon sleeves that fasten at the neckline.

Detachable Elements

Can’t decide whether you want to cover up or reveal some skin? It’s your wedding day, so why should you have to choose? Modern bridal designs can now accommodate the best of both worlds with detachable and convertible elements ideal for cooler climates. The clever design of the floral lace Judy dress allows for a traditional look during the ceremony with sheer long sleeves and delicate lace cuffs, while the sleeves can be removed to reveal a strapless corset dress underneath that’s ideal for the dance floor. For a soft romantic look, the G-409 mermaid gowncan be worn with a detachable sheer-top with 3D embellishment and long sleeves, offering an extra layer of warmth that can be removed to reveal a strapless sweetheart style underneath.
