Bride Of The Week: Andressa
Written By Kaileah Searcy
Meet our stunning GL Bride of the Week, Andressa! She tied the knot in our GALA Mel gown during a dreamy wedding in Uluwatu, Bali, where the 'Island of the Gods' served as the perfect backdrop for their unforgettable day. This is her story...
"When I saw that dress, I just thought it was the most beautiful, perfect dream dress I've ever seen in my life."
My name is Andressa. I'm from Brazil, and I met Nathan, my now-husband, in Sydney, Australia, when I went to study abroad in 2015. We met at work in April 2016, and after a year and a half of working together, I was considering moving to another city in Australia, Adelaide. I already had feelings for Nathan, but I thought it wasn't reciprocal. It wasn't until I told him that I was going to leave that I realized he got very weird, and I had a big feeling that maybe it was reciprocal. He told me not to leave. I thought it was really weird, and after that week, he told me he started doing yoga (I used to practice yoga every day), so I invited him to the studio I used to attend in Bondi Beach for a 7 am Saturday class, and he came. He told me about his feelings, and we've never been apart since. We started dating on that day, 12/08/2017.
We moved in together two weeks later, and a couple of days after our two-year anniversary (on 24/08/2019), Nathan proposed. Despite an ocean between us and countless reasons why we should never crossed paths, one thing I was sure of: "we were meant to be," so I SAID YES, and decided to stay in Australia. We had no idea that COVID would come and put our wedding plans on hold; we had plans to get married latest by the beginning of 2021, but when we saw the situation with COVID restrictions, we decided to wait. In July 2022, things seemed a bit better, and we really thought everything would open up, so I decided to start finding my dream wedding dress. I was searching for wedding dresses on Pinterest, and then I saw the GALA Mel Gown by Galia Lahav.
When I saw that dress, I just thought it was the most beautiful, perfect dream dress I've ever seen in my life. I started looking for stores that sold Galia Lahav in Sydney, and I found a boutique called Eternal Bridal. I called them up and asked, "Do you have this designer? I would love to try their dresses; they are so stunning. By the way, would you have a gown called 'Mel' there? I would love to try." They told me they didn't have it, but they were about to hold a trunk show in their Sydney store.
They told me they could try and bring it with them from their store in Los Angeles. I got super excited and went to the event. I fell in love with all of Galia Lahav's dresses, and on the 6th of August 2022, I attended the trunk show. When I saw the Mel Gown hanging, I got goosebumps, and I told my mum, “I think this is the dress. Can I try it last?” I tried a total of about 12 other dresses between Galia Lahav and other designers, and I didn’t get any feeling. They were also beautiful, but once I put on the Mel gown, I got the most beautiful feeling. I started crying, and I knew it was my wedding dress. I said yes to the dress on that day, not only to the Mel Gown but also to the Galia Lahav GALA Talia for my reception dress.
With Talia, I customized the back to a lower back and made a couple of changes, and for the Mel Gown, it was already perfect. I only asked for a longer train, so they made it about 20cm longer, I believe. We decided to get married in Bali because we love that place so much and we went there to celebrate our engagement. The restrictions were still in place until July 2023, so we decided to book the 24/04/24 for our wedding in Bali Uluwatu, the island of the Gods, in a place that looked just like heaven. It was the best day of our lives, and we even had a rain stopper; that I believe stopped the rain just before I walked down the aisle, and the sun shined over me.
