Bride Of The Week: Ying Fu

Bride Of The Week: Ying Fu

Written By Kaileah Christine

June 22, 2020

Our #GLBride of the week is the beautiful Ying Fu, who walked down the aisle in our Ms.Elle gown.

Surrounded by breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, the couple tied-the-knot at the stunning La Fortaleza Mallorca in Spain. In the following interview, Ying Fu shares with us her romantic love story and the moment she fell for our Ms.Elle gown. As told by Ying Fu:

How did you meet your husband? Tell us a little bit about your relationship.
I met my husband through work. He contacted me about helping him find a mobile designer for his company and he said I came highly recommended in his network. I ended up working closely with his head of design to find this talent. Within two introductions, I made the placement and he thanked me for helping his team. I invited him out for a celebratory drink and we became really good friends.

A few weeks later, I invited him to go ice climbing with me in Alaska as friends, which was a blast. During that trip, I told him I accepted an opportunity to move to Asia in a few months and that we should keep in touch. I didn’t know at the time that he was interested in me and was super grateful for his friendship. Then a few weeks later, he invited me as his “wingman” on a crazy 2-week trip across Iceland, Morocco, Lebanon, Turkey, and Egypt filled with once-in-a-lifetime experiences. After the trip, he told me that he had feelings for me and wanted to convince me to stay in the USA. Needless to say, we then fell in love and the rest is history.

And after, that "go go go" mentality did not stop. In our first two years of dating, we traveled to 33 countries together, 9 music festivals, Burning Man, and so much more. We slowed down a bit post-wedding to chill and recover, but we love to be adventurous and continue the spirit. We just have an epic bucket list of experiences to share with each other and don't want to waste a minute! We are the same animal and we live for “yes”.

How did he propose?
He proposed romantically on Christmas Day in the Maldives at the amazing Soneva Jani. He took me out on a boat to a private island where it was just the two of us eating dinner. As the sun was setting, he showed me a large wooden treasure chest that he had buried in the sand beforehand, filled with many awesome gifts. At the bottom were matching "Ugly Christmas Sweaters" that said "Hubby" and "Wifey". "What do you mean wifey?" I said, and right then, he got down on one knee and proposed with a beautiful ring!

We took a few days to enjoy our romantic time together and then flew off to Taipei where he had coordinated all of my friends coming in to celebrate. We had so much fun!

Did you do any beauty or fitness prep for your big day?
YES! I went to my girlfriend Lisa from Dermasolutions spa for facials every 2 weeks till my wedding. Skin is the most important thing I wanted to focus on. I really wanted that wedding glow.

Fitness, I’ll be honest, I tried many diets and was not successful. The best thing I did was to avoid carbs and sugar. I really started dieting more during the last two months before my wedding. Since most of the final fittings were 2 weeks before the wedding, I did more cardio then.

I also wanted a super flat stomach. This is embarrassing, but this was the most successful flat tummy trick that I signed up for: colonics. 2-3 weeks before the big day, sign up for at least 3 colonics. You will be amazed by the flat your stomach can get.

" Never in my wildest dream, did I think I would end up with two custom Galia Lahav dresses."

What was your wedding theme?
The celebration spanned 5 days across 4 different venues with a different theme every day. The two main celebrations were our opening night "Chinese Tea Ceremony" and our wedding night "Black Tie Rave".

To kick off the week, everyone wore red traditional Chinese garb in honor of my Chinese heritage for a beautiful dinner and private party with Lil Jon performing. For the main event, we combined elegant black tie for the ceremonies and dinner with our own mini dance music festival with 3 of the world's top DJs (Bassjackers, Marlo, Felix Da Housecat), 5,000+ pieces of neon rave gear, fireworks, CO2 cannons, and so much more. It was an epic 4 pm-8 am the party that our guests are still talking about!

The other days also featured boat and pool parties for all of the guests to relax and let loose on and off the Balearic coast.

How was your experience with the Galia Lahav brand?
Incredible! The best responding team! I love that they live for yes. They will make the best effort to fulfill all your requests and just feel that they really go above and beyond for you. The team gave great communication through emails, text, and phone. They keep me posted on everything including status at customs. During all the fittings, it was so fun. Like playing dress-up with a princess at her castle. Galia Lahav really makes you feel like you are part of the family. I love that everyone in the store remembers who I am and what I ordered. It all just made me feel really special.

How did you find your perfect dress?
I knew if I ever got married, I wanted to be married in a Galia Lahav dress. I first went to the Kinsley James Store in Walnut Creek, CA for the Galia Lahav Trunk Show. Since they were only featuring the latest designs, I tried on a few GL dresses and was in love with the Ms. Elle dress. I asked if I can custom make a dress and pretty much took parts of three different dresses and added them together. I also added a 10 ft Train to extend the existing train. Galia approved the design and I was in love when I had my first fitting.

Fun story about my second wedding dress, which was also a Galia Lahav. After ordering my dress with Kinsley James, I was in LA with my husband and we noticed there was a GL store. We called for an appointment to see if there were any reception dresses that I could order. My husband, being “Groomzilla”, was very bummed that he could not pick my wedding dress. So I told him he could pick my reception dress. He didn’t pick Ms. Elle. He picked Gia. But he wanted a very big Gia. So we customized the second dress and made sure it arrived at the same time as my ceremony dress. Never in my wildest dream, did I think I would end up with two custom Galia Lahav dresses.
