Our #GLBride of the week is the gorgeous Diana Vasileyko, who celebrated her nuptials with her fiancé in our Bellina gown. The couple chose to have their dreamy, romantic wedding in Italy at Lake Como’s spectacular Villa del Balbianello. In the following interview, Diana shares with us a behind-the-scenes look of her charming destination wedding and her unique experience finding her dream GL gown.
How did you meet your husband? Tell us a little bit about your relationship.
We meet 9 years ago when I was 16 years old. I just moved from my home town in Kamchatka to Moscow. We entered the same university and started dating in a month and it seems we were never away from each other since 2010.
How did you start planning your wedding? What were the first steps?
Planning a wedding can feel pretty overwhelming at first because you don’t know what to start with. But my amazing mom took all the organizational processes as finding agency, venues, etc. Love you, Mom!
How did he propose?
We were dating for about 6 years before my husband proposed to me on a surprise trip to Budapest on the eve of my birthday. It was a special moment, very private and lovely.

How did you choose your location?
I have always dreamed about having a wedding in Italy, so our wedding took place in two spectacular venues on Lake Como - Villa del Balbianello with the official registration & Villa d’Este with the wedding dinner.
Villa del Balbianello was built at the end of the 18th century by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, on the site of an ancient Franciscan monastery. In 1988, the last owner Monzino died without issue and donated Villa del Balbianello to FAI (Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano). Villa del Balbianello has been used as the setting for several movies, including A Month by the Lake, and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
How did you decide on your bridesmaid style?
I followed one rule - different dresses, colors, patterns, and textures. It can sound intimidating but it has a place to be. The key is to mix silhouettes, colors, patterns, textures, and prints match to the color of my wedding dress and flowers (different shades of pink, peach, rose, and blush, along with multiple metallic shades such as gold, rose gold, and champagne).
What did you enjoy the most about planning your wedding?
As our wedding took place abroad, it was highly important our families and friends were able to come and share with us this wonderful moment in one of the most beautiful places in Italy.
What advice would you give to all our future brides?
Try to relax and enjoy every second of your big day. Focus on the good things that are happening and do not let some little things stress you out. Because after all, how we feel inside is what reflects outside.
How did you know your dress was ‘the one’?
It was AMAZING! I felt like a Disney princess in this dress.
What was the song to your first dance?
Henry Mancini & Audrey Hepburn - "Moon River". This song makes you feel the love and romance in the air.
